Rico closes The Night Shift with an enthralling Chilled Balearic set
The first Night Shift of the autumn sees Rico close the event at The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank, with an exciting chilled Balearic set
Only the second Night Shift RicoP and the team have attended, but an event that we have spoken of so enthusiastically. The pre-show entertainment was provided by Sunday Driver, a truly eclectic mix of traditional Indian music, performed in a brilliantly original style. The crowds were soon drawn, as the anticipation for the main concert grew. Several glasses of wine later, groups of Night Shift regulars mixed with enthralled newcomers whilst gradually sauntering towards the auditorium. The concert itself featured two of Joseph Haydn’s most popular pieces, under the watchful eye (and hands!) of the more than capable conductor, Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Whilst this was already the perfect way to spend a Thursday evening on the Southbank, in typical Night Shift style, the light-hearted conversation flowed more than ever, and I am sure at one point, Yannick likened a trumpet solo to sex!
After the concert had finished, the audience moved through into the main bar for more refreshment and entertainment. Fortunately, this time around Rico was behind the decks hosting an hour long post-orchestral show. In keeping with the relaxed atmosphere, the first 45 minutes consisted of chilled out tracks from the likes of Electribe 101, Groove Armada and Dubtribe Sound System , followed by the masterful, Chicane – Saltwater and Sunlounger – White Sand, finishing the night with a trance sound more akin to Rico’s usual style.
Such was the positive reaction from crowd, The Night Shift Marketing Director William Norris, and Rico himself, that there is already talk of a return to The Night Shift for Rico before the end of the year. Keep your eyes peeled on the site for more details coming soon!
