A warm, sultry late summers evening in Oxford provided the perfect setting for a night which promised a Balearic party like no other. After months of planning, and days spent promoting both in Oxford and further a field, the RicoP team were ready to launch their debut night in the Oxfordshire city. Rico and Harnden, close friends and DJ duo under the guise ‘Empirical Symphony’ were joined by their entourage, including Tom B and Paul C, both friends and RicoP management. Arriving at the venue with ample records and CD’s, the atmosphere was electric from the moment the first few beats and synths drifted gently through the sunset sky.

One of the major advantages of the venue, Baby Simple, is the contemporary design that includes glass frontage with outside seating and sound system. This ‘al fresco’ experience was somewhat reminiscent of a beach bar in Ibiza , coupled with the pleasant temperature and EDM, the perfect way to enjoy a Sunday evening with friends.

The tunes began to flow, with Rico and Harnden effortlessly switching between mixes, the sound progressing as the evening drew in. Upfront trance mixed with classic Balearic anthems, interspersed with some fan favorites kept the masses moving and hands in the air. The booth offered both vinyl and CD mixing; giving Empirical Symphony the opportunity to play some vinyl that has long since eluded even the most prestigious of dj booths.

Despite the lighting leaving much to be desired the sound system was crisp and each of the bar areas were served with perfectly balanced levels. Lush plucked strings from artists synonymous with the genre such as Sunlounger were accompanied by the sounds of Deadmau5, Darren Tate, and everything Anjunadeep. After six hours of well mixed, intelligently selected varied tracks, Solace @ Simple was ready to close, and what fitting way to end than with Above and Beyond’s classic, “Good For Me”.
