Trails of Dusk – 'For all those who just close their eyes and dream...'
Fast approaching 4 years old, 'Trails of Dusk' mixed by Rico Portland under his Gate:20 alias incorporated some of the finest uplifting sounds of its era. Inspired by Above & Beyond's Essential Mix of that very summer, the opening piece of ambient, 'Reading Room' by Thomas Newman featured in the trio's award winning 2 hour experience. Blissfully blended into 'No One On Earth', a track by Above & Beyond themselves, featuring the Original Mix that was often over looked in place of the epic Gabriel & Dresden rework. Arguably one of the highlights of the year for trance fans.
'Forever' by Digital Delinquents with Gareth Emery on the remix is one of those tunes that has summer vibes written all over it. Complimenting the full on vocal beginning of this audiological journey, 'Forever' is perfect for the beach or the car! Rush by Aalto with Super8 on remix duties is one of those stunning, energetic yet sublimely uplifting instrumental trancers.

As the mix moves into more peak time effect, tracks such as 'Kallocain' (Robert Nickson Remix), 'Alba' by Super8, 'Come Around Again' by Signum Feat. Anita Kelsey and 'Yimanya' by the Filterheadz are perfect to get the masses moving, interlaced by interesting tracks such as Above & Beyond's remix of Britney Spears – 'Everytime' and 'Mind of The Wonderful' by Blank & Jones that provide an eclectic variation that represents the trance scene in 2004 perfectly.
'Amen' (Lys Dream Mix) changes the direction with an original sounding beat and riff. A great track that is unbelievably catchy. 'Velvet Morning' by Kyau Vs. Albert with Aalto supplying a remix of this euphoric gem and 'Deeper' by Corderoy finish off a mix that although recorded in October, was fit for the finest of summers.
Packed with vocal tracks that offer an escape, maybe a return to that summer to reminisce, or a chance to look to the future with excitement. However, the vocal tracks do not saturate the mix, and are balanced with an offering that merely accentuates how powerful instrumental trance can be. Gentle notes, the most beautiful of plucked melodies, and driving riffs that takes you on a journey though emotions.
